Key Learning Points

  • The Practitioner is legally responsible for justifying the need for a radiograph under IR(ME)R 2017
  • The operator must stand at least 2 metres away and out of the primary beam during exposure
  • ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) means minimising radiation dose while achieving diagnostic quality
  • It is not acceptable to hold the film or sensor during exposure due to radiation risk
