Key Learning Points
- The Practitioner is legally responsible for justifying the need for a radiograph under IR(ME)R 2017
- The operator must stand at least 2 metres away and out of the primary beam during exposure
- ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) means minimising radiation dose while achieving diagnostic quality
- It is not acceptable to hold the film or sensor during exposure due to radiation risk
- All staff must follow radiation safety procedures, including use of personal monitoring (dosimeter badges) where required
