Key Learning Points
- Blood-stained waste without medicines is disposed of in orange clinical waste bags
- Sharps (including carpules with residual local anaesthetic) must be disposed of in approved sharps containers
- Amalgam-contaminated waste must be disposed of in designated amalgam waste containers
- Cytotoxic and cytostatic waste must be disposed of in purple-coded containers
- Sharps bins must be sealed at ¾ full and never overfilled
